Mali’s journey at the FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026 has come to an end in the group stage. The Eagles suffered an 83-58 defeat against host nation Germany in their final Group A game.
Mali stayed within reach during the opening quarter, which ended 23-18, but Germany pulled away before halftime after winning the second quarter 26-14.
After the break, the Malian team was unable to close the gap. Germany maintained control of the game and eventually secured an 83-58 victory.
Rokia Doumbia, with 10 points and 12 of evaluation, tried to keep her team in the game. For Germany, Frieda Bühner led all scorers with 19 points, while Luisa Geiselsöder was named Player of the Game after scoring 17 points.
A Historic Victory Over Spain
Despite their elimination, Mali leave Berlin with a historic achievement: their stunning 82-73 victory over Spain.
After a narrow 102-97 defeat against Japan, the Malian side produced one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by defeating the Spanish national team.
That victory will remain a defining moment in the history of Mali women’s basketball. Although their World Cup campaign ends in the group stage, the Eagles proved that they are capable of competing with some of the biggest nations in international basketball.
